Since the establishment of the EZBET project in 2013, the project has had a profound impact on the local community of Ezbet Abu Qarn in social and economic terms, as well as in terms of physical structures and the built environment in the urban context. The project was launched as a research project in a collaboration between two famous universities in Stuttgart, Germany (Institute of International Urbanism, University of Stuttgart) and in Cairo, Egypt (Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University). The Project was previously funded by DAAD for approximately 6 years. Now that our work there is complete, it was time to broaden our focus and extend our reach, our knowledge and lessons learned from those prior experiences.
In 2020, with the outcome of this research project, the project has evolved with the two research teams in Cairo and in Stuttgart and is being established as an official entity in both countries.
The Kairos City Lab (often referred to as Kairos Lab) is now and from 2020 onwards the official local research laboratory and consultancy institution in Cairo. It remains true to our commitment to education, research, and support for local communities in need, and strives to write a new chapter in our history.
Kairos City Lab is primarily funded by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology under the JESOR grant program. Our office is located in the Faculty of Engineering at Ain Shams University.
Our new website is currently under construction at www.kairoscitylab.com.
